Word from the Founder

I was invited to Amilo primary School by my husband, who was the then chair of the management committee, as a guest during a Prize Day.

Together with my friends we arrived only to find No Girls deserved to feature on the Prize List!!!! An analysis of the challenges revealed that the little girls growing up in the rural areas face a myriad of challenges which hinder their academic and psychosocial growth hence putting their future in jeopardy.

These challenges stem from the societal lack of priority for girls development, the lack of support from successful women in their areas as well as their own physiological development which they did not know how to deal with. With my husband, we realized that this was reflection of the challenges to the community’s development.

To sustainably address the challenges facing the girls, there was a need for a holistic approach to the girl’s development stretching beyond the school compound.

This is what the Golden Girls Foundation envisages to address.

My Vision is to see empowered women creating socio economically sustainable communities. This will be achieved by ensuring primary school girls access opportunities to grow physically, Mentally, Spiritually and Academically by identifying the challenges they face and setting up their social support structures so that they can grow up to create better families and a better society.
